Profile: Dr. Christy Lane

Tell us about yourself.

I’m an entrepreneur, professor, scientist and Mom of 3. I love to innovate, solve tough problems and work with great people. In my spare time, I love to travel with my family, drink good wine and play sports.

What do you consider as your biggest achievement?

Discovering the link between physical activity, morbidity and mortality – and more importantly leveraging this to improve people’s health and well-being.

What advice would you give to your 18-year-old self?

Don’t let anyone tell you what you can and cannot do. Work hard but enjoy the journey – careers should be fun and fulfilling. Be brave and try new things, learn new things every day.

How do you stay productive and be your best self at work?

I make sure I’m invested and interested in my work. I try to set a reasonable schedule and take breaks to go outside or exercise. I love interacting with other people so socializing is a big part of productivity for me.

What’s your top mental health tip for when the going gets tough?

Sleep, exercise, get outside and make sure you love what you do! Don’t be afraid to fail – my biggest learnings have come through my biggest failures.

What are your top health hacks?

Go to be on time. Any amount of physical activity is better than none – you don’t have to run for an hour for it to matter. Take a quick walk or even just stretch at your desk. Try not to eat at your desk – you’ll be distracted and not realize what you’re eating.

How do you ensure your personal and/or family’s financial wellness?

By working my butt off!! 😉 I’ve learned a lot about finance through my business and from my husband who’s in finance. Be structured, have a plan and stick to it. Treat yourself but have your long-term goals top of mind. Finally, don’t undersell yourself. You are worth it so negotiate hard.

What’s your favorite fun activity?

Travelling and exploring the outdoors with my husband and 3 kiddos.
